Michael Courouleau, (b. Michael Derek Courouleau) is an American industrial safety expert based out of Metairie, Louisiana. His particular areas of expertise include behavior-based safety, injury prevention, and best practice implementation. Michael Courouleau holds a Master’s degree in Occupational Health, Safety, and Environmental Management from Columbia Southern University as well as a Premed Biology degree from the University of New Orleans.

Michael Courouleau is adept in incident investigation and works with corporations of all sizes to maximize profits and promote positive leadership. An experienced speaker and presenter, Michael Courouleau also conducts Safe Start training programs and coordinates safety implementation procedures.

Michael Courouleau is a member of the ASSE, NSC, and ASP and currently resides just outside of New Orleans.

Career


Michael Courouleau graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Premed Biology from University of New Orleans in 2006. Shortly after graduation, he started working in the grain industry in his home state of Louisiana. As a production and safety lead, Michael Courouleau was given the responsibility to oversee the training, scheduling, and workplace motivation for over 100 employees and contractors.

While in the grain industry, Michael Courouleau conducted specialized training courses for individuals whose jobs required extended periods in confined spaces. This Confined Space Entry (CSE) training allowed Michael Courouleau to teach rescue methods to the company’s first responders. Michael Courouleau was transferred to Oklahoma City after successfully leading the company’s Louisiana location to achieve exceptional safety numbers. At the Oklahoma plant, Michael Courouleau served as Safety Lead and Plant Manager Associate. Here, he again hosted safety presentations and significantly improved the company’s ergonomics. Michael Courouleau is credited with eliminating the company’s OSHA noncompliance issues.

In 2008, Michael Courouleau accepted a position at Gulf Environmental Science and Technologies. His role here as an Industrial Hygienist was to collect and document field samples, interpret lab analysis, and implement corrective measures in the field to eliminate or reduce chemical & physical exposures.

Currently, Michael Courouleau is an Industrial Hygienist, and Safety/Environmental consultant for an environmental health and safety service company. The company focuses on the areas of safety, training, indoor air quality, environmental services, industrial hygiene, and emergency response education and training. In the area of industrial hygiene, Michael Courouleau has experience in the recognition and control of occupational health hazards, spill and release response, mold and asbestos inspection and analysis, and naturally occurring radioactive materials (NORM). Having extensive knowledge in these and other industrial hygiene topics, Michael Courouleau remains consistently up-to-date in all OSHA regulations and ACGIH standards.
